Paid Teaching Internship, Summer Term 2026
We are pleased to be offering the Department for Education (DfE) Teaching Internship Programme for Summer 2026, providing undergraduates and Master’s students with a paid opportunity to explore a career in secondary school teaching.
We are offering internships in the following subject areas (subject availability may vary by school):
Mathematics
Physics
Chemistry
Computing
Design & Technology
Modern Foreign Languages
This three-week paid placement from 22nd June - 10th July is designed to give you a realistic and supportive insight into life in the classroom, helping you decide whether teaching is the right next step for you.
Eligibility
This programme is open to:
UK university undergraduates in their second, third or final year
Master’s students
You should be studying a degree related to one of the subjects listed above, or have strong A-levels in a relevant subject.
Please note:
First-year undergraduates are not eligible
You must have the right to work in the UK
You cannot apply if you have previously completed a DfE-funded teaching internship
What Will You Experience?
During the internship, you will:
Observe experienced teachers in real classroom settings
Take part in lessons and support pupils’ learning
Learn about key teaching and learning strategies
Gain insight into classroom management and behaviour
Develop transferable skills such as communication, leadership and presentation
Have the opportunity to try some teaching yourself, with support
This is a supportive and structured experience designed to help you understand what teaching is really like and hopefully be the first step on your journey into teacher training.
